No: I-15-007 March 16, 2015 CONTACT: Diane Screnci 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610-337-5331 NRC Assigns New Senior Resident Inspector To Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Amar Patel as the Senior Resident Inspector at the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, N.J. The plant is operated by Exelon Nuclear.

Prior to his recent promotion, Patel was a Resident Inspector at Oyster Creek. Since joining the agency in 2002, he has worked as a Resident Inspector at the Hope Creek plant in Lower Alloways Creek Township, N.J., and as a reactor inspector at various plants in the Northeast. He completed the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and a rigorous NRC inspector qualification program. He holds a bachelors degree in electrical engineering and a masters in engineering management from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Amar Patel has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment, and ensuring Exelon continues to safely operate Oyster Creek, said NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC Resident Inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident Inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
