The Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) will hold a public meeting Oct. 8 to 10 in Rockville, Md., to discuss several issues of current interest. Topics include: the combined license application for North Anna Power Station Unit 3 for an economic simplified boiling-water reactor and the draft safety evaluation report with open items; the license renewal application and associated final safety evaluation report for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Unit 1 and 2; and risk assessment of consequential steam generator tube ruptures and other steam generator action plant items. The committee will also discuss the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Stations three-dimensional structural analysis of the drywell shell and review the draft final revision of regulatory guide for the fire protection for nuclear power plants.

The ACRS advises the Commission, independently from the NRC staff, on safety issues related to the licensing and operation of nuclear power plants as well as those issues in the areas of health physics and radiation protection.

The meeting will be held in Room O-1F16, the Commissioners Conference Room, of the agencys One White Flint North building, at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md. Sessions on Thursday, Oct. 8, and Friday, Oct. 9, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; portions of the meeting may be closed to discuss proprietary information, or organizational and personnel matters.
