Diane Screnci (610) 337-5330 Email: opa1.resource@nrc.gov Neil Sheehan (610) 337-5331 NRC ASSIGNS NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR TO OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Amar Patel as the Resident Inspector at the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, N.J. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Jeff Kulp at Oyster Creek, which is operated by Exelon Nuclear.

Most recently, Patel was a Resident Inspector at the Hope Creek plant in Lower Alloways Creek Township, N.J. He joined the agencys Region I staff in 2002 after earning a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia. After completing the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, and a rigorous NRC inspector qualification program, he was a reactor inspector at plants throughout the Northeast.

Amar Patel has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensure Exelon continues to safely operate Oyster Creek, said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.

The Oyster Creek resident inspectors can be reached at 609-693-0702.
