Subject:

[External_Sender] Proposed License Amendment Request, Nuclear Fuel Services, Docket No.70-143 Date: Thursday, January 26, 2023 6:17:05 PM Honorable ASLB Panel Chair & NRC Rulemaking & Adjudications Staff:

Thank you for your January 23, 2023 MEMORANDUM.I am submitting a limited appearance statement in order to make the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board aware of my concerns at issue in the subject proceeding.

I urge you to reject Nuclear Fuel Services' application for a license to produce purified weapons-grade uranium. This work would take place in the middle of a small town in close proximity to homes and schools, an interstate, and the Nolichucky River, a source of drinking water for Jonesborough and Greeneville. NFS has already seriously contaminated the Nolichucky with nuclear waste. They have shown that they cannot do this work in a responsible manner. Granting their license request would ensure even greater contamination of the river and surrounding area, with serious effects on the health of the people living there and those working at the facility.
