[External_Sender] PROPOSED License Amendment Request, Nuclear Fuel Services, Docket No.70-143 Date:
Thursday, January 26, 2023 4:39:38 PM 26 January 2023 Honorable ASLB Panel Chair & NRC Rulemaking & Adjudications Staff:
Thank you for your January 23, 2023 Memorandum. I am submitting a limited appearance statement so that I can make the Atomic Safety & Licensing Board aware of my concerns in this subject proceeding.
This Uranium Purification Project should NOTbe allowed to continue because it is located in the middle Erwin, a small town in Tennessee, much too close to the nearby homes and schools in that area. This Uranium Project represents a toxic threat to the health & welfare of the entire Erwin Community. Additionally, the Nolichucky River is also located near this Project and stands to be severely impacted by any accidental spills contaminating the rivers water thereby threatening the safety of the drinking water supply for Jonesborough and Greeneville, Tennessee.
I was shocked to hear that a Uranium Purification Project is even being considered at this time; how can the NFS be allowed to violate existing International Law prohibiting the proliferation of nuclear weapons!
I appreciate your review and response to my concerns outlined above.
Sincerely,
/s/
Karen M. Burgos
