UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 21, 2020 Mr. Robert D. Quinn Nuclear Material Management, Director Westinghouse Electric Company 1000 Westinghouse Drive Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania 16066

SUBJECT:

APPLICATION FOR THE WESTINGHOUSE SENTRY' DRY STORAGE CASK SYSTEM, CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE NO. 1026, AMENDMENT NO. 5 -

ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID L-2020-LLA-0105)

Dear Mr. Quinn:

By letter dated April 30, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System

[ADAMS] Accession No. ML20121A214), as supplemented on June 5, 2020, October 2, 2020, and November 20, 2020 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML20164A121, ML20276A295, and ML20329A083, respectively), Westinghouse Electric Company LLC (Westinghouse) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission an application to amend the SENTRY' Dry Storage System, Certificate of Compliance No. 1026, pursuant to the requirements of Part 72 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to complete a detailed technical review. With the information supplied to date, the application appears to contain the information needed for our technical review.

We have established a schedule for the review and estimated that the staff may need approximately 2,800 hours0.00926 days
0.222 hours
0.00132 weeks
3.044e-4 months
to complete its review. This high number of projected hours is due to the high level of complexity and novelty of this amendment. The schedule allows for the staff to issue the first request for additional information (RAI) by the end of April 2021 and, if a second RAI is not needed, a draft certificate of compliance and safety evaluation report will be ready for rulemaking by the end of October 2021, based on Westinghouse responding to the first RAI by the end of July 2021. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to a RAI.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, I may be contacted at Nishka.Devaser@nrc.gov or by phone at (301) 415-5196.

Sincerely, Nishka Devaser, Project Manager Storage and Transportation Licensing Branch Division of Fuel Management Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Docket No. 72-1026 EPID L-2020-LLA-0105
