Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Numbers 50-413, and -414 TAC Nos. M95298 and M95299 By letter dated January 30, 1998, the NRC transmitted a request for additional information related to Section 3.6 of the proposed Improved Technical Specifications (ITS) submitted by Duke Energy May 27, 1997. of this letter provides responses to the comments on this section.

Immediately following each staff comment (or group of comments) are changes to the ITS submittal necessary to resolve the staff's comment and supplement the initial ITS submittal.

The material added to the ITS and associated Bases resulted in page number changes for a large number of pages.

To aid in staff review, Enclosure 1 includes the markup of the ITS 3.6 and Bases to clearly denote changes. provides the retyped pages for ITS 3.6 Specifications and Bases in their entirety.

Changes to ITS 5.5.2 were also necessary to resolve two of the comments.

These changes (including retyped ITS pages) are included in along with the changes to Section 3.6.

Changes are denoted by revision bars to facilitate staff review.

The pages provided in Enclosures 1 and 2 in this response replace the corresponding pages in the May 27, 1997 submittal and Supplement 1 provided March 9, 1998.
