The Comissich has initiated a two step process to corply with the ,

Ccnference Cemittee's directive to censolidate our investigative and inspecticn functions under the Executive Oitictor for Operations. As a first step, beginning on F6bruary 1. 19t6. the Office of Investigations wi)1 repcrt to the Cecuty Director for Regiona) Operations. As a second step, the (cmission intends to develop a permanent integration of tne investigative functices within the staff by March 21. 1988.

This is to inform you of the action taken by the Cemission in response to the directive in the Conference Comittae Report on H.J. Res. 395, relating to the organizational structure of the Nuclear Regulatory Comissicn.

The Cocnissi:n has initiated a two step process to comply with the Conference Comittee's directive to consolidate our investigative and inspection functions under the Executive Director for Operations. As a first step, oeginning on February 1,1988, the Office of Investigations will report to the Deputy Director for Regional Operations. As a second step, the Comission intends to develop a permanent integration of the investigative functions within the staff by March 21, 1986.

We believe these steps will effectively implement the Conference Cemittee's directive.
