l The diesel generator must be verified to have started and operatina parameters nust be monitored.

All comrmmication a.-d activitics aust be performed in accordance with current, approved prooectares.

Generator operation Ing must be ccrpleted, signed, and returned to the Shift Supervisor.

l INFORMATION Respond quickly to an emergency start of the diesel cjenerator. A diesel generator cannot to manually emergency started from tm contml roca.

It is ' vital to proceed to the diesel generator building as soon as instructions are given to emergercy start the diesel generator.

Refer to the section, " Diesel Generator Opera'clon Ohder IOCA Conditions."

Proceed to the 1A diesel generator tuilding.

If time allows, verify etsine control panel iniications. "Jiis check should take no larger than 10 awvrds if nc alams are present.

IK1rE: De sure to wear ycur hearirg protection ard verify that others in the generator recta are hearirq theirs.

INITIATE THE EMERGDKN STARP A button is enclosed behind a glass wirdcw on the engine control panel.

A small har.tner is attached to a chain on tle left side of the wirdow.

Dy either unscrewing the glass (preferable), or by breaking it, the sprire loaded button will " pop cut" slightly, ard the diesel generator will emergency start.

VERIFY 'nRT THE DIESEL STARIS Check the follcuiry irdications on the engine control panel:

1.

Verify that the red STARrDC lanp illtninates.

The light should stay on for approximtely 5 secceds after the start sigral is initiated.

2.

Verify that the green SAFRIY DUECTICH SIGaL lanp illumimtes.

3.

Verify that engine speed is increasirq.

4.

Note that the HIERGEtKN START annunciator is flashirg.

Acknowledge the alam.

5.

Note that the red IUNND3G light illuminates. This occurs at 200 rpn.

6.

Note that the blue REA!N 70 LOAD light illtrainates. This occurs at approximathly 440 rpn.

i Note the tire of the start for entry into the log book.

In the diesel generator buildirg, walk throtgh the task of emergency 3.

If possible, have a fellow trainee evaluate your performance using Prtxatare 13145-1 and-this instructional unit.
