Dear Mr. Johnson:

We are in receipt of your letter dated May 11, 1984 (received May 17, 1984) wherein certain conditions are set forth concerning information required by the NRG for the fuel element program. It was requested that this information be provided within 90 days, and further that we confirm our schedule for providing the information within 10 days.

Please recognize that the fcel element failure modes analyses that you requested is a project that we must contract to an outside firm.

It is not possible fcr us to arrange such contractual matters, obtain work schedules and respond back to you in ten (10) days. It is requested that the ten (10) days be extended to thirty (30) days. We have no idea at this time as to the complexity of your request or how long completion of such an analyses will take. As soon as we obtain the necessary information we will get back with you concerning your request and the overall schedule of 90 days.

I trust that you can recognize the complexities involved and that you will look favorably upon our request for extension of time.

Very truly yours, 0 rYTYnd Don W. Warembourg Manager, Nuclear Production Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station DWW/djc h,h DO ohhj7 ) D PDR s
