Prevento backflow from Aux. Feedwater System to Nuclear Service Water System until the associated EMOs are closed.

EMos are powered from the same train they serve. Must open to allow assured makeup flow to CA from RN System.

TEST REQUIREMENT:

Full stroke exercise quarterly BASIS:

Neither full nor partial flow can be put through these valves without contaminating the Auxiliary Feedwater System with raw water.

No means exist for alternate testing techniques using air or any other medium.

No means exist to test for proper closure without contaminating the Auxiliary Feedwater Syctem 13 with raw water.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

At least one of these two valves will be disassenbled and full stroked during each refueling outage, and both valves will have been disassembled and full stroked after two consecutive refueling outages.

Failure of one valve to properly full stroke during a refueling outage will result in the remaining valves being disassembled and full stroked during that outage.

Samplo disassemb)v will also ve.ify proper closure of valves.

Serves as vacuum breaker for vertical piping to prevent steam bubble collapse on pump restart.

TEST REQUIRCMENT:

Full-stroke exercise quarterly, ECCS_ leakage testing at refueling, DhsIS:

Full stroke exercising requires manual isolations at the spray rings, movement of the polar crane Temporary scaffolding installed across the,

Schedule 10 piping high in the annulus, and severe l

pursonnel safety risks during testing at full power.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

Full stroke exercising of vacuum breakers is a partial stroke verification of air inflow.

Valves will be leak tested for ECCS leakage and partial l

stroke exercised at refueling outage frequency. This l

application for relief from the code is temporary.

During the refueling outage EOC8 modification NSM-MG2-2398 is scheduled to be implemented.

These modifications will delete these vacuum breakers thereby eliminating the need for testing.

BASIS:

1)

None required.

2)

System configuration and design do not provide a 13 auitable means to prove the valve prevents reversal of flow. To check this valve on line would risk personnel safety since high energy steam would be involved.

ALTERNATE TESTING:-

1)

None required.

2)

At least one of the two valves will be disassembled and inspected (verified to close) during each refueling.

Both valves will have been disassembled and inspected after two consecutive refueling outages.

Failure-of one valve to function properly during a refueling outage will result in the remaining valve being disassembled and-inspected during that outage.

Valves must be open to allow boric acid flowpath from the Boric Acid Tank and must close to maintain NV Pump suction presours.

TEST REQUIREMENT Full otroke exercise quarterly DADIS:

This valve han safe position open and closed. To 13 full stroke open, 30 gpm or rnore of boric acid needs to be pumped through it.

This would cause a reactor

-transient at power. To verify proper closure, residual boric acid could be introduced into the Reactor Coolant System causing a transient.

ALTERNATE TESTINGS 2NV-264 will be full otroked exercised at a cold shutdown frequency.

These valves shall close ir. the event the Chemical Mixing Tank line or the RMWST line la open respectively to isolate the Centrifugal Charging Pump Suetion~Line and prevent backflow to these tanks.

TEST REQUIREMENT:

Vorify valve closes properly once overy three months.

l BASIS:

Testing of these valves requires 2NI-121A be opened.

Thie-valve is normally aligned for safety injection with power removed per Tech Spec 4.5.2.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

Thesa valves will be tested at-cold shutdown.

PUMPS:

D/G Room Sump Pumps (2A2, 2A3, 2B2, 2B3)

SAFETY CLASS:

3 FUNCTION:

Water removal from Diesel Generator Rooms TEST REQUIREMENT:

Test pumps in accordance with Subsection 1WP.

BASIS FOR RFLIEF:

The D/G Room Sump Pumps are vertical pumps tested by filling the D/G Room Sump and pumping the sump down.

No stable system conditions can be obtained due to the continuous decrease in sump level.

No suction pressure, flow, bearing temperature. or lubricant level instrumentation is available.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

The D/G Room Sump Pumps will be tested for greater than or equal to emergency design flow by:

(1)

Filling the sump and recording level.

(2)

Pumping down the sump and recording both level and pump down time.

An average flow rate will be determined from the t.ime it takes to pump a known volume from the sump.

Pumping down the sump takes approximately 60 seconds.

An average discharge pressure will be determined and recorded.

The flow rate will be compared with acceptance criteria established per Table IWP-3100-2.

The above testing procedure is an interim method until ;aodifications are made to the system which will permit full flow testing using a recirculation loop back to the sump.

Included in the test loop modification will be direct flow indication and throttling capability to set either AP or Q.

The modifications will be installed by the end of 1992.

13 No lubrication level verification is required for this pump.

Lubrication is maintained under our routine preventative maintenance program.

No suction prensure instrumentation is required since this pressure can be calculated from sump level measurements.

McGUIRE - UNIT 2 GENERAL RELIEF (IV)

TEST REQUIREMENT:

Perform full otroke time testing and trend analysis on Category A and D valves as deperibed in IWV-3413 and IWV-3417.

ItASI S :

For electric motor operated (EMO) valvos which do not rocoivo an automatic signal to move to either the open or closed position or both, but rely on operator action to move, full stroke time testing and trending in the direction of non automatic operation will not bo performed.

Since there is no Design Basis stroke times for valvos of this type, applying a limiting time and trending of stroke times may result in unnecessary maintenance.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

For EMO valves which do not receive an automatic signal or have a Design Basin stroke time in one or both directians of operation, proper valve movement will be touted at a frequency in accordance with IWV-3412(A) and IRV-3416.

The requirement of IWV-3417(a) to compare stroke times to previous otroke times will not be followed.

Any abnormal or erratic action will be reported.
