On July 10, the Salem Nuclear Generating Station No.1 was temporarily shut down by officials of Public Service Electric and Gas Company because of a leaky valve.
According to press reports I've seen, coolant water was leaking at the rate of 11 gallons a minute.
The leak was first lf noticed at 9 a.m., but the plant was not shut down until five hours later.

O Since the Salem Generating Station is located in n,y congres-sional district, I am deeply concerned about any accidents which occur l
at the plant and about the procedures which are followed to correct these mishaps. This is the third time the plant was shut down in the last six months because of a leaky valve.

I would like to be furnished a full report on this latest accident and its relationship to the previous accidents.
I would also like to know more about the nature of tra radioactive materials which were pumped into the Delaware River as a result of this incident.
Mr. Arthur Lenahan, a spokesman for Public Service Electric and Gas, was quoted in press reports as saying the water had " virtually no radioactivity content" when it was pumped into the Delaware. He also said such releases are " normal procedure and within the technical i
specification limits of the Nuclear Regulatcry Commission."
Would you kindly clarify for me what was meant by " virtually no radioactivity content". Also, is it normal procedure to pump this l
