Inspection of Hydraulic Shock Abscrbers (Snubbers)

R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1 Docket No. 50-244

Dear Mr. Skovholt:

In accordance with your letter of October 1,1973 concerning periodic inspection of hydraulic shock absorbers (snubbers), an inspection of all Ginna Plant snubbers was conducted during the unit outage of January 1 ilu vuuis Apill 2's, 1374.

In the Containment, the seven Bergen-Paterson snubbers were replaced with spares or rebuilt units, all of which use the ethylene-propolene "O" rings. The remaining snubbers, of different manufacturers, were also inspected and did not require maintenance.

For the balance of the plant, five Bergen-Paterson snubbers were replaced because they had previously exhibited minor leakage of fluid. Twelve additional Grir el snubbers were added to the steam dump and reheat steam lines.

All the snubbers, including those which were replaced, were considered o' erable. Inspections of all units were completed on April 8,1974, while p

the plant was in a shutdown condition, and again on April 28,1974 after -

the plant was at power. All hydraulic units are operable.

Very tru y yours,
