Dear Mr. Goller:
In accordance with Mr. Skovholt's letter of October 1,1973 concerning periodic inspection of hydraulic shock absorbers (snubbers), the hydraulic snubber units located outside the containment were inspected on January 31, 1975, cnd the unit: Iccated incidc the ccatainmcat we.e 1.ispucle I on January 21, 1975, when a containment entry was made. All units were determined to be operable.
Hydraulic fluid was added to the reservoirs of two of the Bergen-Paterson units outside the containment. One of these units presently has ethylene propylene seals. No evidence of leakage was noted. The other, which is not safety related, contains polyurethane seals and exhibited slight leakage at the shaft seal. It will be rebuilt as material is made available. A third unit which had been rebuilt with ethylene propylene seals was reinspected-on January 13, 1975 due to previously indicated leakage. Leakage was noted at the telltale of the accumulator. The accumulator was replaced with a spare accumulator and no further leakage has been observed.
