SUBJECT:
THI NO, 1 REACTOR C00LAtlT IllSPECTIO!!, FOR REQUALIFICATI0tl SUBSEQUEliT TO SULFUR If;TRODUCTIO!!
Subsequent to the detemination of sulfur induced steam generater tube degradation at THI Ho. 1. GPUNC established a task force to evaluate the problem.
The GPUllC ta:k force has seven separate tasks.-
1.. Failure analysis 2.
Long tem repair 3.
Tube plugging evaluation 4.
Eddy current test program 5.
Plant perfomance review, with selected repairs 6.
Steam generator plugging criteria 7.
Primary system Anspection and requalification l-On May 4,1982 GPUt!C submitted their proposed reactor coolant system inspection and requalification program (Task 7: BAW-1727, April 16,1932).
We have evaluated the RCS inspections and requalification program as delineated in BAW-1727 (April 16,1932) and we find that fit is adeauate to determine the suitability of the RCS for continued use....In the event the inspection program reveals corrosion attributable to sulfur attack, additional inspections may be necessary.

lhor.ss Hoyak I We have the following specific coments on the inspection program:
1.
More thoroubh characterization of the seal ring destructive examination is necessary to demonstrate that the most susceptibic areas have been examined.
2.
The conflict that exists between page 9-1 and 1D-4, which quote internals heat threats of 025'F and 850*F should be reconciled.
We will review the results of the proposed inspection program prior to restart.
