I have been employed with tr e NRC 52 nce Crc tocer of.1986 as a site-secretary working twelve hours a week.

1 find the Job interesting and' challenging and have alway s avaa leo mysel f of oDoortunitaes such as counterpart meetinos to keep abreas t of the enanges and improvements.

s I have cerraed another Job in conj unction wi th the NRC with a local nospital.

About IS months ago a reeresentat a ve of the State approachec e with an ofier to work for a new State Office, the Office of Nuclear Safe'

The office opened March of th2s year and I have been working wath them since Marth 13.

This map will be used as an :nformational source for the public.

I am aware that ouestions concerning conflict of interest have come up and in accOrdance with 10 CFR cart O section O.735 1 am reouesting your permissaon to continue NRC and state employment.

I have held the job wit the Stat Q g r months so I feel better eoulpped to assure you that tr does c't present a conflatt of interest for the following reasonst t

1h

1.

The State and NRC 2n Maine ano carticularly the reoretentatives of ea:

organization at Maine vankee have cecellent c ommur i c a t ion and their goals are complimentary (i.e. health and safety of the public).

My knowledge of NRC Regional organaration and.tne State inspector's organa:ation assist in provadano good commun2 cation tetweea these effaces.

2.

The N:: recorts cons 2st mainly of. safety and system inspections with1r the plant.

The State Inspectors reports consist mainly of off-site monitoring of t he en v i r onme,n t.

Although the.NRC and State Inspectors talk f requentl y of plant issues these recorts are focused on dif f erent subj ects in'dafferent areas.

3.

Both of these organi:ations deal with the health and safety of the Maine people.

They are not of opposing sides.

Any opportunity to enhance'the achievement of that end goal would seem worthv.

4 In the time period'l have work ec for both organizations there has not been a sa tuation where sensi tive information has beer remotely discussed.

'On a perso-al note. I have never felt comfortaole with nuclear :ower.

Working for the two organizations that ensure that this facilit. is run safely. protecting the health anc welfare of the public nas been.a source of crade for me.

The people t"at I work for an the NRC and the state are esconstDie anc.cecicateo resple that install a secure feelin; atout a serious business.

I have been luc 6y to wor

  • with such ceople, at would appre:aate tne opportun1tv to remain a small part et it.

Tnank you

'r your conticeration'an this matter.

1 appreciate tne time you are taking te resol.e at.
