CONTINUATION OF PRELIMINARY DRAFT REPORT OF INSPECTION CONDUCTED AT THE HAYWARD TYLER PUMP COMPANY (HTPC) SURLINGTON, VERMONT DURING MAY 12-20, 1982 During the May 18-20, 1932 period, our inspection addressed matters associated with the NRC investigators followup of allegations questioning the quality of pumps prot:ed by the HTPC.

This included a continuation of our review of (1) the casing wear ring and (2) the AMPC0 Seismic Supports.

New areas addressed included review of (1) the impeller wear ring, (2) procurement specifications for castings, (3) heat treatment procedures, (4) welding procedures, (5) x-rays related to the Millstone Unit 3 pump castings and the Shearon Harris suction cone, (6) cleaning procedures, (7) flame straightening of shs.fts, (8) the procedure for upgrading castings (9) design margins related to pressure boundary parts including bolting and (10) the quality classification of certain long tubes.

During this review HTPC provided their consultant's report regarding flame straightening of shafts.

They stressed that the conclusion's in the con-sultant's report reflect only the consultant's view and may not necessarily be their view.

They also advised that since they received the report they had not yet reviewed it thoroughly and, therefore, were not ready to make any con-clusions regarding this matter.

With respect to the casing wear ring and the AMPC0 Seismic supports, we advised HTPC that our inspection of these two matters are complete.

However, we also advised that no conclusions have or would be made regarding these matters until after the investigators have completed their effort.

With respect to new Items (1) through (10), the investigation into these matters is not complete and we expect our inspection of these items will be continued at our next visit, and, therefore, no conclusion can be made regarding these items.

An attendance list of attendees during the inspection is also attached.

It should be noted that G. Georgiev, acting as car metallurgical consultant accompanied us during the inspection of May 19-20, 1982, hW AMX Mark Peranich, Acting Chief Vendor & Special Programs Section Division of Reactor Programs, IE fi 4W Alex Drcmerick, Chief, Section A Engineering & Technical Support Branch Division of Engineering & Quality Assurance, IE
