Bruce, A few weeks ago you requested clarification on Section 5.2.3 (see below). As our email back to you stated, NuScale agreed with the NRCs comments. The purpose of this email is to confirm that NuScale has completed changes to the FSAR in accordance with the NRCs comments. Since this request was not associated with an RAI, NuScale will not be submitting the change formally to the NRC. Instead it will appear in Revision 3 of the NuScale FSAR when it is issued later this year. Please let me know if you require any more information regarding this change.

NuScale Chapter 5 Section 5.2.3 - Changes to information on check valves

Carrie, During staffs review of DCA Rev 2 a few changes were noticed which have an impact on Section 5.2.3. Clarification is requested.

1. In DCA Revision 2, Table 5.2-4 was modified to delete references to the (1) RCS check valves, (2)

RCS Excess Flow Check Valves, and (3) RCS injection and discharge isolation valves. This table in DCA Rev 1 provided materials information for the check valves via pointer to Table 6.1-3. The use of a pointer was acceptable because the valves are part of the RCPB (whose valve materials are identified in Table 6.1-3). When NuScale deleted these valves and the reference to Table 6.1-3 in Rev 2, Table 5.2-4 became incomplete as this table no longer lists all of the RCPB components.

It appears that these valves are still part of the design: Section 5.1.3.2, Rev 2 still states that the aforementioned valves exist. However, the header for Section 5.4.2.5 was revised to address Reactor Coolant System Piping Materials rather than Reactor Coolant System Piping and Check Valve Materials, so there is additional uncertainty.

Also, the following two items are more editorial in nature, but there should be consistency between Section 5 and Section 6 of the DCA:

1. Table 5.2-4 does not list Note 2 related to SS filler metal as applicable for the stainless steel filler metal component under the Reactor Vessel heading. The Note is listed as applicable to the RCS Piping heading.

A. Note 2 should be added to Table 5.2-4.

2. In Tables 6.1-1 and 6.1-2, Note 1 was added which is related to dual certified material. However, the superscript for Note 1 was not added to the title of the last column Material/Grade/Type. Adding this note to the column would indicate that the note is applicable to everything in the column. Changing the superscript aligns Tables 6.1-1 and 6.1-2 with the notation in Table 5.2-4.

A. The superscripts should be added to the column in Tables 6.1-1 and 6.1-2.
