Mike, Regarding the next step forward for the staff review the NuScale EPZ Sizing Methodology Topical Report (TR) Revision 2 (ML20217L422), we are considering the addition of conditions of applicability to the topical report to the LTR criteria for CDF, LRF, and functional containment, where appropriate. However, to ensure the best process path forward, we request the staff begin the review and start the RAI process that asks NuScale to clarify how designs are addressed where CDF, LRF, and functional containment are not useful metrics? Another useful question would be one that requests NuScale to clarify limitations on use for designs where it would be challenging to adapt the methodology criteria. And further, we would accept questions more focused on LWR conceptual reactors. We hope this constitutes an official start of the review.

Per the revised RAI process, NuScale would have an opportunity to review the draft RAI and request clarification if needed. Following clarification (if necessary), the Staff would issue the final RAI. NuScale will work with the Staff to provide responses acceptable for resolution and closure. Upon acceptance of RAI response(s), we believe the Staff will have a clear path forward to develop a report review schedule towards issuing an SER for the EPZ topical report.

No Revision 3 will be developed prior to completion of the RAI process.
