NuScale Comments Chapter 5 SER w/OIs

Rebecca, Regarding NuScale comments 12 & 13 (Chapter 5 SER w/OIs):

Staff reviewed NuScales comments on the steam generator materials. Comments 12 & 13 address the same issue about the steam generator tubing material. Comment 12 states:

The NuScale FSAR does not call out use of ASME SB-163 for SG tube material.

Recommend deleting ASME SB-163 from this statement. See FSAR section 5.4.1.5.

FSAR Revisions 0 and 1 did call out SB-163 in Tier 2 Section 5.4.1.5, and we missed the change (removal) in Rev. 2.

Staff needs to understand the reason for the deleting of ASME SB-163. We need to consider the implications for the material NuScale is planning to use for the steam generator tubing, and its not clear to us how the ASME Code requirements can be met without identifying the ASME Code Section II specification.
