Mr. Michael Gallagher Vice President, License Renewal Exelon Nuclear 200 Exelon Way Kennett Square, PA 19348
SUBJECT:
PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 -
SUMMARY
OF THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT (EPID NO. L-2018-RNW-0013)
Dear Mr. Gallagher:
A review team consisting of staff from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) participated in an audit from November 7-8, 2018, at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3 (Peach Bottom), as part of the subsequent license renewal application environmental review. The goal of the audit was to review documentation and gather information to ensure that the environmental requirements for subsequent license renewal, as codified in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51, were met. A letter dated October 25, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML18289A379) was sent containing an audit plan.
An entrance meeting was held on November 7, 2018, to introduce participants and discuss audit logistics. During the remainder of the site audit, the NRC staff participated in tours of Peach Bottom, examined data used by Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon) in preparation of the environmental report, and met in smaller groups with Exelon representatives to address the audit needs identified in the audit plan. The enclosure to this letter provides a list of representatives from the NRC and Exelon who participated in the audit.
At the conclusion of the audit, the NRC staff summarized the status of the review with Exelon representatives during the exit meeting. Most of the NRCs questions identified in the audit plan or during the audit were answered through the conduct of the audit. Those that were not answered were included in a request for additional information (RAI) e-mail (ADAMS Accession No. ML18330A157). The RAl e-mail also references documents requested by the NRC staff during the audit. Exelons response to the RAI email is publicly available (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML18354B061 and ML18354B066). Persons who do not have access to ADAMS or who encounter problems in accessing the documents located in ADAMS should contact the NRC's Public Document Room staff at 800-397-4209 (or 301-415-4737) or by e-mail at pdr.resource@nrc.gov.
M. Gallagher While the NRC staff did not identify any significant environmental issues during this audit, the staff indicated that the environmental review was ongoing and that any additional information necessary to support the review would be formally requested via the RAI process, during the course of the review. If you have any questions on this matter, please contact David Drucker by telephone at 301-415-6223 or by e-mail at David.Drucker@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/
