"At approximately 1006 EDT, 3/23/2016, two Atlantic sturgeons were removed from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. One sturgeons was deceased upon retrieval and the other died shortly after retrieval due to its tail being severed off. A report was made by Environmental Licensing to the National Marine Fisheries at 1018 and the NJDEP [New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection] Division of Fish

& Wildlife at 1104, concerning the Atlantic sturgeons.

"Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4-hour report to the NRC under Reportable Action Level 11.8.2.a."

The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector and will notify the Lower Alloways Creek Township.

Notified R1DO (McKinley) and the Endangered Species Group both via E-mail.
