SUBJECT:
POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2; REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM INSPECTION
Dear Mr. McCartney:
In a telephone conversation on September 17, 2014, Mr. R. Amundson, NRC Examination Coordinator, and Mr. R. M. Morris, Senior Operations Engineer, made arrangements for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to inspect a portion of your Requalification Program at your Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. Mr. Morris will review the scenarios to be administered the week of the inspection and observe the Training Departments administration of those requalification tests in accordance with Inspection Procedure 71111.11B. Mr. Morris will also be reviewing the stations operating history and performing a portion of the Problem Identification and Resolution inspection associated with Inspection Procedure 71111.11B. The inspection is planned for September 22 - 23, 2014, which coincides with your regularly scheduled requalification examination cycle. The staff at your facility should prepare and conduct the requalification examinations in accordance with your NRC-approved Requalification Program.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 55.59(c), the NRC may request facility licensees to submit their biennial comprehensive requalification written examinations or annual operating tests as necessary to support the NRC's inspection program needs. The NRC will review the operating test scheduled for the week of September 22, 2014, at the site. Therefore it will not be necessary to provide any material in advance of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact Mr. R. M. Morris at 630-829-9508, or I can be reached at 630-829-9707.
Sincerely,
/RA/
