UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-Q001 Mr. John T. Carlin Site Vice President Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Tennessee Valley Authority P.O. Box 2000 Soddy-Da1sy, TN 37384 February 10, 2014

SUBJECT:

SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAG NOS. MF0057 AND MF0058)

Dear Mr. Carlin:

By letter dated January 7, 2013, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (1 0 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, to renew Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) operating licenses DPR-77 and DPR*79, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This letter is to inform you of a change in the schedule for the SQN license renewal review.

The environmental review milestone "Issue draft supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS)" is revised from February to July 2014. The NRC staff requires additional time to allow for the internal review of the SEIS in a manner which balances internal workload across numerous ongoing reviews and works through significant SEIS format changes associated with the recently revised "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants." The environmental review milestones "Public meeting-draft SEIS meeting" and "Issue final SEIS" are revised from March to August 2014, and October 2014 to March 2015.

respectively, because of the revision to the draft SEIS milestone.

In addition, the safety review milestone due dates for: "Issue safety evaluation report (SER) with open items" due March 2014; "Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS)

Subcommittee meeting" due May 2014; "Issue final SER" due October 2014; and "ACRS full committee meeting" due December 2014, are revised to "To Be Determined (TBD)." To support the issuance of a revised schedule, your response to the NRC staffs request for additional Information (RAI) B.1.34-9, dated December 6, 2013 (ADAMS Access1on No ML13323A097},

concerning reactor vessel internals program action item 1, must be complete and provided to the NRC in a timely manner. After receiving the RAI response, the NRC staff will review the response and, if acceptable, incorporate the response in the safety review, and new ACRS dates will be determined.

Enclosed is the NRC staffs revised review schedule for the SON license renewal application.

If you have any questions related to this revised schedule, please contact Mr. David Drucker, for

the environmental review milestone changes by telephone at 301-415-6223 or by e-mail at david.drucker@nrc.gov or Mr. Richard Plasse, for the safety review milestone changes, by telephone at 301-415-1427 or by e-mail at richard.plasse@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, J
