Package Number: USA/9341/B(U)F-96 Licensee Name: University of Missouri-Columbia Research Reactor (MURR)

License.No.: R-.103.

Background:

Test and Research Reactors throughout the United States have typically relied on the Department of Energy (DOE) to provide a shipping cask for returning irradiated fuel to the DOE. In 2008, Idaho National Lab's Research Reactor Infrastructure Program contracted with AREVA Federal Services to design and build a NRC-certified Type B shipping cask to replace the.now-expirediBMI-1 spent fuel shipping cask (Certificate No.

5957). This new cask will be used to ship irradiated nuclear fuel from various research reactors to spent fuel storage facilities at Idaho National Lab and Savannah River Site.

AREVA designed and built the BRR package with the MURR fuel as one of the four*

spent fuel types taken into consideration for performing the cask safety analysis.
