license-renewal dismay Ms. Ashley:

It is out of respect for Frieda Berryhill's 40 years of tirelessness in trying to safekeep me and so many others safe that I am motivated to type my piece.

When our five children were small, I attended a free lecture given by a then-duPont engineer. His topic was nuclear power and since I knew little except the hype about the topic, I wanted to hear what he believed was important enough to give his time and energy to sharing.

On a blackboard he likened a power plant to a tea kettle and from there proceeded to explain why nuclear power was not efficient, not safe, and not clean--in fact the dirtiest of the dirty when one considers the duration of radiating spent fuel. In other words, it is not the fix the industry claims.

If it were such a sure thing, Ms. Ashley, would there be a Price Anderson Act and now the current push for subsidies?

Please consider the arguments Mrs. Berryhill has written (in her non-native tongue to boot) with your utmost determination to learn what our children and grandchildren could be spared. Three Mile Island happened when our kids were babies. I still recall the feeling of possibly needing to flee, but knowing no place to be available.

The term limit for licensing was obviously a safeguard required by the NRC, plant owners, and the home-states. What on earth could have increased the durability of these plants (Hope Creek and Salem) to make them sturdy enough to re license?

I have also noted Sidney Goodman's frustration as valid. Please give credence to his facts as well.

With sincere hope for saneness in decision-making on this renewal request, Ruth Panella 2317 Woodland Lane Arden, DE 19810 Phone:302 475-88399 E-mail Properties Mail Envelope Properties (C70DDC4726AF48DD9F04F75DB8969D03)
