April 14, 2009 LICENSEE:
NEBRASKA PUBLIC POWER DISTRICT FACILITY:
COOPER NUCLEAR STATION
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING MEETINGS RELATED TO THE REVIEW OF THE COOPER NUCLEAR STATION, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MD9763 AND MD9737)
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted environmental scoping meetings related to the review of the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) license renewal applications submitted by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). Two public meetings were conducted on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Brownville Concert Hall, 126 Atlantic St.,
Brownville, NE 68321 and at Auburn Senior Center, 1101 J St., Auburn, NE 68305.
Approximately 60 people attended the meetings. The attendees included representatives of the NRC staff, local news media, members of the public, NPPD, and local government officials.
Several public comments were entered into the meeting transcript by the court reporter during the two meeting sessions. The comments focused on the importance of continued operation of CNS through license renewal process and the level of cooperation between CNS and the local area organizations (e.g., emergency response management).
A combined listing of attendees for both public meetings is provided in Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the meeting handouts provided during the public meeting open house. The official corrected transcripts for the afternoon and evening meetings are publicly available at the NRC Public Document Room (PDR), located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland 20852, or from the NRC's Agency wide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).
The ADAMS Public Electronic Reading Room is accessible at http://adamswebsearch.nrc.gov/dologin.htm. The transcripts for the afternoon and evening meetings are listed under Accession Nos. ML090840062 and ML090840063, respectively. A copy of the slides used during the NRCs presentation is also available in ADAMS under
Accession No. ML090750686. Persons who do not have access to ADAMS, or who encounter problems in accessing the documents located in ADAMS, should contact the NRC's PDR reference staff by telephone at 1-800-397-4209, or 301-415-4737, or by e-mail at pdr@nrc.gov.
