NRC Generic Letter 2008-01, "Managing Gas Accumulation in Emergency Core Cooling, Decay Heat Removal, and Containment Spray Systems," dated January 11, 2008 Ladies and Gentlemen:

This letter is provided to document the April 3, 2008, telephone conversation between Jared Wermiel (Deputy Director, Division of Safety Systems, NRR) of the NRC staff and Brian McCabe (Manager, Nuclear Regulatory Affairs, Progress Energy) representing Carolina Power & Light Company, now doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc., and Florida Power Corporation, now doing business as Progress Energy Florida, Inc. During the telephone conversation, Progress Energy requested a 30-day extension to the referenced Generic Letter 3-month response and the staff agreed to that extension for Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. 1 and 2; Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No. 1; H. B.Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2; and Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant. It is expected that Progress Energy will submit the required response letters no later than May 9, 2008.ALM(
