SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (SSES 1 AND 2) - FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT RELATED TO PROPOSED EXTENDED POWER UPRATE (TAC NOS. MD3309 AND MD3310)

Dear Mr. McKinney:

Enclosed is a copy of the Final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact related to your application dated October 11, 2006, as supplemented by letters dated October 25, December 4 and 26, 2006, February 13, March 14 and 22, April 13, 17, 23, 26, and 27, May 3, 14, 9, and 21, and June 1, 4, 8,14, 20, and 27, July 6, 12, 13, 30, and 31, August 3, 13, 15, and 28, September 19, and October 5, 2007, for SSES 1 and 2. By letter dated September 19, 2007, you provided comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs Draft Environmental Assessment dated August 15, 2007. These comments were reviewed by the NRC staff and considered in its final assessment. The proposed amendment would authorize increasing the maximum steady-state reactor core power level from 3489 megawatts thermal (MWt) to 3952 MWt, which is an increase of approximately 13 percent thermal power. The proposed increase in power level is considered an extended power uprate.

The assessment is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
