Subject Indian Point Groundwater Investigation Status

Dear John and Tom,

I wanted you to know that the Unit 2 SFP tracer injection began last Thursday, February 8th. No definitive results are back yet. As you suggested, we may want to schedule a status conference call in 2 weeks (around March 1st) for GZA to discuss some of the early results. Please let me know of your availability for that call.

The final 6 waterloo samplers have been delivered to the site and will be installed over the next 3 weeks - to include all 4 riverfront wells and 2 boundary wells (MW-40 and 51). Scheduling the Unit 2 SFP transfer canal inspection work continues to drag on, with no contract yet in place - maybe 1 more month and work will begin to identify and repair any leaks in the transfer canal.

The licensee has scheduled an onsite informational briefing for government stakeholders on the groundwater contamination issue on March 8, 2007. The NRC and NYS have been invited. If either of you are interested in attending, please let me know.

With regard to onsite inspection opportunities, I am scheduled for an onsite groundwater contamination inspection during the week of February

Jms Nole Re: Indian Point Groundwater Investigation Status -2 26th and a potential onsite team inspection (including you) during the week of May 7, 2007. I am expecting the results of the first tracer test will be ready for review at that time (in May). Following completion of all tracer tests, another site visit may be needed in mid-summer,to discuss their final site characterization conclusions.

What are your recommendations/ideas?
