14 NRC Performance Indicators and Inspection Findings

  • There were 6 findings for Vermont Yankee in CY 2006 - 5 Green (very low safety significance) and 1 White (low to moderate safety significance)

15 NRC Inspection Findings White, a failure to properly prepare and ship a package containing radioactive material in a manner that assured conformance with DOT radiation level limitations on the external surface of the package.

Green, a failure to correct a previously identified condition that allowed the continued accumulation of dust on a grounding resistor bank. This dust accumulation contributed to the inadvertent initiation of the east switchgear room CO2 fire suppression system, declaration of an Unusual Event, and performance of a rapid power reduction.

Green, a failure to incorporate operating experience into the preventive maintenance strategy for the reactor building closed cooling water system pump motor.

Green, a failure to conduct surveillance tests to verify 10 CFR 50, Appendix R (Fire protection Program) components remained in an operable condition.

Green, a failure to establish an adequate off-normal procedure to address degraded service water system flow conditions.

Green, a failure to correct a condition that caused flow oscillations in both the high pressure coolant injection system and the reactor core isolation cooling system.

16 NRC Annual Assessment Summary Vermont Yankee Entergy operated the plant safely and in a manner that preserved public health and safety and protected the environment Vermont Yankee plant performance was in the Licensee Response column of the NRCs Action Matrix for the first 3 quarters of 2006, and moved to the Regulatory Response column in the 4th quarter of 2006 due to a White finding All cornerstone objectives were fully met NRC plans baseline inspections and one supplemental inspection at Vermont Yankee for CY2007
