SUBJECT:

ENHANCED TRANSPORTATION SECURITY FOR RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS This letter is to inform you of pending actions the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will be implementing in the near future. The NRC has determined that security enhancements are needed for the transportation of certain radioactive materials. The NRC intends to issue security Orders to power reactor licensees in the near future who may transport certain radioactive material of concern. The Orders will require compliance with specific additional security measures (ASMs) to enhance the security during transport of certain radioactive materials.

Before issuing the Orders implementing these ASMs, the NRC would like the regulated communitys comments on these draft documents. Workshops to discuss the Orders, ASMs, and other security matters are being planned for later this year. The workshops are scheduled for the locations and dates provided below. Additional information about the workshops will be sent by separate correspondence.
