Implementation Schedule Change for License Amendment Request to Isolate Unborated Water Sources and Use Gamma-Metrics Post-Accident Neutron Monitors during Mode 6 (Refueling)

References 1. PSEG letter to NRC, "License Amendment Request to Isolate Unborated Water Sources and Use Gamma-Metrics Post-Accident Neutron Monitors during Mode 6 (Refueling)," dated March 9, 2015 (ADAMS Accession No. ML15068A359)

In the Reference 1 letter, PSEG Nuclear LLC (PSEG) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) for Salem Nuclear Generating Station (Salem), Units 1 and 2. The proposed amendment would isolate unborated water sources and permit use of Gamma-Metrics Post-Accident neutron monitors during Mode 6 (Refueling).

PSEG requested NRC approval of the proposed LAR by March 9, 2016, to support planned modifications to replace the existing source range and intermediate range nuclear instrumentation during the Unit 1 Spring 2016 refueling outage ( 1 R24 ). PSEG has re-assessed the work scope for the Salem 1R24 outage and determined that the replacement of the source range and intermediate detectors is going to be moved from the 1R24 outage to the Fall 2017 refueling outage (1R25). Based on this decision, PSEG is updating the implementation schedule requested in Reference 1.

PSEG is requesting a 120-day implementation period to allow for implementation to extend beyond the 1 R24 refueling outage.
