2. Florida Power & Light Company letter L-2017-156, Turkey Point Application to Adopt 10 CFR 50.69, "Risk Informed Categorization and Treatment of Structures, Systems, and Components for Nuclear Power Reactors," December 22, 2017 (ML17363A216)

In the referenced letters, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) submitted license amendment requests (LAR) to modify the St. Lucie and Turkey Point licensing bases by the addition of a license condition to allow for implementation of the provisions of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Part 50.69, "Risk-Informed Categorization and Treatment of Structures, Systems, and Components for Nuclear Power Reactors." Subsequent to submittal of the LAR and conversation with NRC staff, FPL has decided to withdraw those requests.

The decision to withdraw is based in part on the proposed approach for screening seismic risk from the categorization process. FPL has determined that the approach, while developed as part of the St.

Lucie and Turkey Point Individual Plant Examinations for External Events, may not be directly applicable to 10 CFR 50.69. FPL intends to re-examine the approach in light of other contemporary efforts to characterize seismic risks and then evaluate resubmittal at a later date.

This letter contains no regulatory commitments.
