By letter dated February 25, 2005, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff issued guidance to all operating power reactor licensees on implementing Section B.5.b of the Order for I nterim S afeguards a nd S ecurity C ompensatory Measures i ssued i n F ebruary 2002. By letter dated May 27, 2005, Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) and FPL Energy Seabrook provided the requested information for St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2; Turkey Point Nuclear Plant, Units 3 and 4; and Seabrook Station, Unit 1.
On August 23, 2005, the NRC sent (via e-mail) a request for additional information (RAI) to FPL. On September 14 and 15, 2005, the NRC staff and FPL and FPL Energy Seabrook Station personnel conducted teleconferences in which the NRC staff requested FPL and FPL Energy Seabrook to provide written responses to the RAI questions. During the teleconferences FPL and FPL Energy Seabrook asked the NRC staff to make its request in writing. By letter dated September 16, 2005, the NRC requested FPL and FPL Energy Seabrook to provide written responses to the staff RAI within 30 days of the date of their letter. In response to a FPL telephone request on October 12, 2005, Mr. Robert Gramm, NRC Team Leader for B.5.b and the associated RAls, agreed to extend the response due date until October 31, 2005, to allow additional time for FPL and FPL Energy Seabrook to complete their submittal review process.
In response to NRC letter dated September 16, 2005, Attachment 1 provides the requested information regarding St. Lucie Units 1 and 2; Attachment 2 provides the requested information regarding Turkey Point Units 3 and 4; and Attachment 3 provides the requested information regarding Seabrook Station.
