SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50 440/98009(DRP)

Dear Mr. Myers:
On April 20,1998, the NRC completed a routine safety inspection at your Perry Nuclear Power Plant. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
During this six-week inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Perry facility was characterized by conservative operation of the plant, well controlled surveillance testing activities, and good engineering involvement and support of activities. However, the report also discusses concoms with ineffective resolution of a longstanding problem with the ability to monitor the
'
standby readiness condition of the diesel generators due to problems with the Jacket water level gage.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
