(Closed) IFI 50-338, 339/88-26-01: Analysis and evaluation of the calibration data of the health physics countirig room germanium detectors.
As a result ! of noted biases in the measurement of gamma-emitting radionuclides during
the previous Confirmatory Measurements inspection, the NRC has evaluated I the celebration of the three germanium detectors located in the facility's ! health phy:ics counting room, rhich were being calibrated at the time of the inspect'on.
The Attachment to this report shows the effect of the new efficiency calibrations on the ratio of licensee measurements to NRC measurements for selectrd radionuclides and counting geometries in all three detectors.
The closer the ratio is to 1.0, the better 15 the agreement between licensee and NRC results.
Unless otherwise specified, this analysis only considered the change in counting efficiencies and assumed that all other counting parameters and variables remained constant.
l As shown in the Attachment, there was a considerable improvement in the dyree 01 agreement beu;een licensee arid NRC results for the radionuclides and counting geometries analyzed.
Only one noted bias on the high side, but within the agreement criterion, remained.
This was Sn-113 (gamma energy of 392 kev) on the particulate filter in all detectors.
The methodology for determining agreement between NRC and licensee results was explained in Attachment 2 to Inspectior Report Nos. 50-338/88-26 and 50-339/88-26.
