~

Inspection Report Nos. 50-338/88-b and 50-339/88-26,. dated September 21, 1988',

-

described an Inspector . Follow-up Item (50-338, 339/88-26-01)- concerning the

analysis and evaluation of 'the most, recent calibration ~ data for the . three

germanium detectors . located in your North . Anna facility's health physics

counting room.

In a letter dated September 23, 1988, you transmitted the .

.'

requested' calibration data for our evaluation. Results of the, evaluation:show-

'

a substantial improvement in the' calibration of your germanium detectors and a

much cluier agreement between your measurements and ours.

During a telephone conversation on February 1, 1989, between the'inspectar and

a ' member of your staff' cognizant of counting room operations, the catses for

the di.fferences between the. previcus and current calibration data were

1-

discussed. During the telephont coilversation, the benefits of common practices

such as compar1rg old versus new efficiencies after calibration'and the use of

computer geriarated effic1cacy curves vare also discussed.

The licensee

representative

indicated that consideration would be- given fcr the

implementation of these practices.
