This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated February 23,1998, and your check for

$55,000 in payment for the civil penalty imposed by NRC in a letter dated January 22,1998.

l As noted in NRC Inspection Report 50-220;410/98-04, your corrective actions, as identified in your letter dated February 23,1998, were generally acceptable. However, relative to Violation 1033 involving shipment of an incorrect liner of radioactive waste, we noted that your did not propose any long-term corrective actions, such as amending your procedures as necessary, to effect periodic inventory of the radioactive waste shipping liner storage area to preclude incorrect shipment or disposition of a liner containing radioactive waste. Based on discussions with your staff, we understand that you are considering such supplementary action, as discussed in Section of R 8.4 of the inspection report.

Your corrective actions will be examined during future inspections.
