This letter transmits the results of the resident safety inspection conducted by Messrs. B.' Norris, R. Plasse, and W. Mattingly from September 19 through October 30,1993, at Nine Mile Point

Units I ar.d 2, Scriba, New York. The inspectors based their findings on observation of l
activities in progress, interviews with personnel, and selective examinations of procedures and l
representative records. The resident inspectors discussed the inspection findings with members
,
of your staff at the exit meeting conducted on November 5,1993.

Your staff operated both units safely. Our inspectors noted a significant initiative you have
'
developed to prevent recurrence of past maintenance problems. You developed maintenance performance principles te provide standard expectations and objectives for maintenance
.
personnel, and you reinforced the principles with the development of coaching teams to accompany craft pcrsonnel in the field. We view this as a proactive move to foster teamwork
and improve performance. Our inspectors will continue to evaluate the implementation of this
,
initiative.
