| Description | 10 CFR 50, Appendix A, criterion 2, Design Basis for Protection Against Natural Phenomena states, in part, that structures, systems, and components important to safety shall be designed to withstand the effects of natural phenomena such as earthquakes. Contrary to this, original design of the Unit 1 and Unit 2 reactor building cranes were not adequate to withstand a design basis seismic event. The licensee entered the condition into their CAP as AR #251648 and modified the cranes to correct the condition. This finding is of very low safety significance due to the very low probability of a design basis seismic event. |
