SUMMARY

OF REGULATORY COMMITMENT CHANGES Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, LLC October 30, 2009 ATTACHMENT 2009

SUMMARY

OF REGULATORY COMMITMENT CHANGES Unit: Nine Mile Point Unit 1 (NMP1)Commitment:

The screenhouse crane has been classified as a crane not in regular use as outlined in ANSI B30.2-1976, Section 2-2.1.4. For cranes not in regular use, ANSI B30.2-1976 recommends an annual inspection.

Regardless of use, the screenhouse crane will be inspected semi-annually, which exceeds the annual requirement of ANSI B30.2-1976.

Source Document: Letter from T. E. Lempges (Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation) to D. B. Vassallo (NRC) dated August 5, 1985.Revised Commitment:

The commitment has been changed to inspect the NMP 1 screenhouse crane annually.Justification for Change: ANSI B30.2-1976 recommends an annual inspection, for cranes not in regular use.Commitment:

On special lifting devices, inspect approximately ten percent of the critical, load bearing, accessible welds annually.

After ten years, reassess the entire program to determine whether or not a revision to the program is necessary.

Source Document: Letter from T. E. Lempges (Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation) to the D. B. Vassallo (NRC) dated January 18, 1985.Revised Commitment:

Inspect all load bearing welds annually or prior to use.Justification for Change: This is being done to align with ANSI N14.6-1993, Section 6.3. The new criteria is more conservative than the original commitment.

The original commitment allowed inspection of 10 percent of the critical, load bearing, accessible welds. The new criteria requires inspection of all load bearing welds annually or prior to use.1 of2 ATTACHMENT 2009
