| Description | Title 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B, Criterion III, Design Control requires in part that design control measures shall provide for verifying or checking the adequacy of design, such as by the performance of a suitable testing program. Contrary to this, between mid 1990s and June 2008, approximately 40, 480 Vac motor control center components, such as, starter coils and interposing relays, had not been periodically tested to verify the adequacy of available voltages for their proper function. This was identified in the licensees corrective action program as Condition Report 08-38977. This finding was of very low safety significance because the failure to perform periodic testing did not impact current operability of these components since the purpose of the periodic testing was to assure the minimum voltage remained acceptable as these components aged |
