SUBJECT:

U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION PRESENTATION AT THE MAY 1, 2023, PORT GIBSON CITY COUNCIL MEETING

Dear Mayor White:

I am the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Senior Resident Inspector based at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Mississippi. I would like to formally request that we be added to the Agenda for the May 1, 2023, Port Gibson City Council Meeting. I would like to be allotted approximately 5 to 10 minutes, if possible, to make a presentation for those at the meeting, to share information regarding the NRC and the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. I plan to discuss the function of the NRC, our role as NRC Resident Inspectors, and the results of the NRCs assessment of Grand Gulfs plant performance in 2022.

On March 1, 2023, the NRC completed its end-of-cycle performance review of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. The NRC reviewed the most recent quarterly performance indicators (PIs) in addition to inspection results and enforcement actions from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.

The NRC determined the performance at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station during the most recent quarter was within the Licensee Response Column, the highest performance category of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix, because all inspection findings had very low safety significance (i.e., Green), and all PIs were within the expected range (i.e., Green).

Therefore, the NRC plans to conduct ROP baseline inspections at this facility.

Please let me know if you have questions. I can be reached during business hours at 817-200-1957.

Sincerely, Tim Steadham, Senior Resident Inspector, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Division of Operating Reactor SafetyUNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION IV 1600 E. LAMAR BLVD ARLINGTON, TX 76011-4511 Signed by Steadham, Timothy on 03/21/23
