October 4, 2022 Mr. John Sauger General Manager Zion Restoration Project ZionSolutions, LLC 101 Shiloh Boulevard Zion, IL 60099-2797

SUBJECT:

U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION'S ANALYSIS OF ZIONSOLUTIONS, LLC'S DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING STATUS REPORT FOR THE ZION NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, DOCKET NOS.

50-295 AND 50-304

Dear John Sauger:

By letter dated March 28, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received your decommissioning funding status (DFS) report (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession No. ML22091A195) for the Zion Nuclear Power Station (ZNPS) Units 1 and 2.

The NRC has reviewed and analyzed the site-specific decommissioning cost estimate, as required in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.82(a)(4)(i), and the amount(s) stated within the licensees decommissioning trust fund, as of December 31, 2021, for the above plants, as well as earnings assumptions. Based on the reported decommissioning trust balance, together with earnings credits specified under NRC regulations, the NRC has determined that as of December 31, 2021, ZionSolutions, LLC, is providing a total amount of decommissioning funding assurance in the amount of $6,800,000 for ZNPS Units 1 and 2.

This letter confirms the correspondence, described above, regarding DFS reports for permanently shut down power reactors as required under 10 CFR 50.82(a)(v) - (vi). As of the date of this letter, considering the available information, the NRC has determined that ZionSolutions has satisfied the decommissioning funding assurance requirements of 10 CFR 50.82, for ZNPS Units 1 and 2 on December 31, 2021. A summary report completed by NRC staff reflecting decommissioning power reactor DFS is expected to be completed and made publicly available by the end of calendar year 2022.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

J. Sauger If you have any questions, please call me at (301) 415-1335 or email me at Kimberly.Conway@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Signed by Conway, Kimberly on 10/04/22 Kim Conway, Project Manager Reactor Decommissioning Branch Division of Decommissioning, Uranium Recovery and Waste Programs Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Docket Nos. 50-295 and 50-304 License Nos.
