DRAFT REPORTS REGARDING PROBABILISTIC SAFETY STUDY FOR THE RESAR SP/90 As part of our ongoing review of your application for a Preliminary Design Approval (PDA) for the RESAR SP/90 Advanced PWR, we contracted with Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to assist us in our review of Module 16 "Probabilistic Safety Study." For your information, attached are two draft reports from BNL, entitled: "A Review of the WAPWR Probabilistic Safety Study,"

and " Assessment of Core Melt Progression and Fission Product Releases for the WAPWR Design."

We request that you review these reports, and provide us with your comments within 60 days of the date of receipt of this letter. Note that these are draft reports and have undergone only preliminary review by the NRC staff.

Review of this matter is still underway, and the conclusions reached in these reports are subject to change.

The material contained in these enclosures is considered to be proprietary and, therefore, is being withheld from public disclosure per 10 CFR 2.740.
