PROPOSED IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $2,500
-This is to inform the Commission that a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars
($2,500) will be issued on or about October 26, 1987 to the University of Virginia. This action is based on several violations involving: (1) failures to perform the surveys necessary to identify a high radiation area and to take
. appropriate action to properly post and control access to the area; and (2) .
failure to provide written procedures for the installation, operation, modifi- I cation, and surveillance of experimental facilities. The escalation and I mitigation factors in the Enforcement Policy were considered and no adjustments were deemed appropriate. ,
It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically informed of the ;
enforcement action. The Regional Administrator has been authorized by the Deauty Executive Director for Regional Operations to sign this action. The scledule of issuance and notification is:
Mailing of Notice October 26, 1987 Telephone Notification of Licensee October 26, 1987 The State of Virginia will be notified.
The licensee has thirty days from the date of the Notice in which to respond.
Following NRC evaluation of the response, the civil penalty may be remitted, mitigated, or imposed by Order.
