DRAFT SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT ON THE ADVANCED BOILING WATER REACTOR DESIGN Enclosed for_ your use is a copy of the staff's Draft Safety Evaluation Report (DSER) related to your application for design certification of your Advanced Boiling Water Reactor Design. The DSER addresses those sections of your Standard Safety Analysis Report covered by Standard Review Plan sections 4, 5, 6, and 17.

Consistent r'th the Licensing Review Bases (LRB) dated August 7, 1987, the staff plant to issue this DSER and 3 supplements covering the review elements as defined in Table 2-1 of that document. However, in cases where early or late. resolution of issues is encountered, the individual chapters discussed in each SER may differ slightly from those identified in LRB Table 2-1. A final integrated SER is presently scheduled for mid 1990.

Copies of this DSER are being sent to the ACRS for their consideration during the next ABWR Subcommittee meeting. If you have any questions regarding-this report, please contact Dino Scaletti at (301)492-1104.
