Subject:

Proposed Change to Maine Yankee Technical Specifications - Turbine Driven Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Gentlemen:

Tne enclosed proposed Technical Specification change requires that the turoine driven auxiliary feedwater pump be operable during plant operation.

The turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump is not required to protect the plant from postulated design basis accidents but it is capable of providing feedwater during certain nondesign basis, low probability events.

The specific change is as follows:

Replace pages 3.8-2 and 3.8-3 of the Maine Yankee Technical Specifications with the enclosed pages 3.8-2, 3.8-3 and 3.8-4.

Tnis proposed change adds a restriction to the Technical Specifications.

The change does not increase the probability or cons?quences of an accident previously analyzed. It does not involve the possibility of a new accident and it does not decrease margin to safety. Therefore, the change does not involve a significant hazards consideration.

This proposed change has been reviewed by the Plant Operation Review Committee and the Nuclear Safety Audit and Review Committee.
