2003 Waterford 3 Written Examination Analysis The following questions were missed by greater than or equal to 50% of the candidates and were reviewed for errors:

RO subjects - Questions 1-75 on Combined RO/SRO Examination (5 Candidates)

Question 58 - 3 of 5 candidates missed this question and picked distractors A or C.

This question tested an immediate Tech Spec action and was expected to be known from memory. The candidates picked parts of the action from the MODE 1 and 2 Tech Spec. The initial conditions clearly stated MODE 3 conditions.

Recommendation: Answer B is the correct answer. Waterford 3 recommends that the question stand as is.

SRO Subjects - Questions76-100 on Combined RO/SRO Examination and Questions 1-25 on SRO Only Examination (7 Candidates)

Question 81/6 - 5 of 7 candidates missed this question and picked distractors A and C.

The question required the candidates to perform a manual Nomogram dose assessment to determine dose received at the Exclusion Area Boundary over a two hour release duration. One candidate failed to multiply the dose rate by the duration of the release. One candidate used the wrong flowrate for the release point given in the stem. Three candidates made multiple line drawing errors that drove them to the improper response.

Recommendation: Answer B is the correct answer. Waterford 3 recommends that the question stand as is.

Question 92/17 - 4 of 7 candidates missed this question and were split evenly between distractors B and D. The question required the candidate to recall requirements for draining the RCS to less than 18 ft MSL. Given the sensitivity of the evolution and Waterford 3 and industry Operating Experience in reduced inventory conditions, it was expected that the requirement in question would be known from memory.

Recommendation: Answer C is the correct answer. Waterford 3 recommends that the question stand as is.
